Musculoskeletal Ultrasound
OSC offers musculoskeletal ultrasound to diagnose and help to treat a wide variety of orthopaedic and sports-related injuries and other causes of muscle, ligament, tendon and joint pain.

This advanced imaging process is a dynamic, non-invasive exam that allows for real-time evaluation of a variety of disorders. It also provides visualization for guided needle procedures, ensuring that the injection is accurately placed to reduce the potential for damage to surrounding tissues.
Musculoskeletal ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images. It can be used to evaluate injury and abnormalities in:
- Tendons
- Ligaments
- Muscles
- Nerves, including the carpal tunnel
- Bones – stress fractures
- Soft-tissues
- Joints
It can be used for guidance for treatments including:
- Aspiration and/or injection of joints
- Tendon origin injections (i.e. tennis elbow)
- Tendon sheath injections (i.e. trigger finger)
- Bursa injections and aspirations
- Aspiration of cysts, fluid collections and abscesses
- Lavage and aspiration of tendon calcifications
- Foreign body retrieval
- Injection of platelet-rich plasma (PRP)
Musculoskeletal ultrasound is safe and more cost effective than some other imaging modalities. It is quick and painless and produces high-resolution, dynamic images with excellent tissue differentiation.
